A fantastic evening of celebrating sporting success and community spirit was enjoyed at Greenock Town Hall on Friday 28th August, as the Inverclyde Sports Personality Awards celebrated the outstanding achievements of talented people from across Inverclyde.

The awards night was a tremendous success, bringing together athletes, coaches, volunteers, schools, clubs, families and supporters to recognise the dedication, commitment and achievements of those who make such an important contribution to sport in Inverclyde.

There was an atmosphere of excitement throughout the evening as winners were announced across a wide range of categories, celebrating achievements from grassroots and school sport through to national and international honours and lifelong contribution to the sporting community.

The award winners on the night were:

  • Coach of the Year: Gemma Campbell Alexander

  • Sporting School of the Year: All Saints Primary School

  • Disability and Neurodiverse Award: Craigmarloch Football Team

  • Team of the Year: Notre Dame Under-15s Girls Football Team

  • Junior Sports Personality of the Year: Olivia Lyne

  • Young Volunteer of the Year: Holly Crowther

  • Adult Volunteer of the Year: Sandra Malcolm

  • Impact Club of the Year: Port Glasgow Bowling Club

  • Senior Sports Personality of the Year: Neil Lafferty

  • Lifetime Achievement Award: Jim Boyland

The evening also featured two special achievements.

Kyle Brotherton was recognised for his Outstanding Achievement in Disability Sport, celebrating his determination, commitment and success in the sporting arena.

There was also Special Recognition for Chris Jewell in appreciation of his hard work and dedication in organising previous Inverclyde Sports Personality Awards nights and helping to make them such successful occasions, his legacy with live on for years to come.

The awards highlighted that sporting success is about much more than medals and trophies. Behind every achievement are hours of training, encouragement, teamwork and support from coaches, volunteers, families, schools and clubs, making all these successes possible.

The event was a fitting opportunity to shine a light on those individuals and organisations who continue to inspire others and help make sport accessible and enjoyable throughout Inverclyde.

From the achievements of young people taking their first steps in sport to the dedication of volunteers and the lasting contribution of those who have given decades to their chosen activities, the evening demonstrated the remarkable depth of sporting talent and commitment within our community.

The success of the evening is testament to the talent, passion and community spirit that exists across Inverclyde — and Friday night's celebrations provided plenty of reasons to be proud of the area's sporting achievements.
