GF TEAM SCOTLAND
Multi sport
GFTeam Scotland, led by Chris, is a family-run Jiu-Jitsu and MMA gym that has become a welcoming and inclusive space for people of all backgrounds. The club is built on values of acceptance, encouragement, and support, creating an environment where everyone feels they belong. Chris has played a vital role in coaching young people, using martial arts not only to teach physical skills but also to support their mental and social well-being. Through structured training, discipline, and positive reinforcement, Chris helps build confidence, resilience, and friendships among the youth who attend. The club has become more than just a gym—it’s a community where individuals can grow, connect, and thrive. Chris’s passion for supporting young people through sport has made a meaningful difference in the lives of many, proving that martial arts can be a powerful tool for personal development and inclusion. GFTeam Scotland truly exemplifies community spirit in action.

GLENPARK HARRIERS
Athletics
Greenock Glenpark Harriers has made a significant impact across Inverclyde during the 2024/25 season. Becoming a registered charity in 2025 strengthened our mission to make running and fitness accessible to all, regardless of age, ability, background, or finances. We now have 96 junior and 260 adult members, including people in recovery and asylum seekers, creating a supportive, inclusive space. Free beginner sessions have helped many take their first steps into fitness, with several progressing into training groups, volunteering, and building lasting friendships. Our women-only strength sessions run four times a week and have become a lifeline for many, particularly during menopause. We’ve supported five new coaches and encouraged youth leadership through Sports Leaders programmes. Every child receives free kit, and adults in need get membership and kit support. From youth development to accessible indoor training, we remove barriers so everyone can thrive. We’re more than a club—we’re a community making a lasting difference.

INVERCLYDE ATHLETICS CLUB
Athletics
Inverclyde AC promotes healthy eating and the importance of replenishment foods to support physical and mental well-being, especially for athletes. The club encourages older athletes to mentor younger ones, fostering lifelong development through coaching and support. As a SCIO, Inverclyde AC is committed to inclusivity—offering reduced or waived membership fees, free taster sessions, holiday camps, Fit2RUN programmes, and competition access with travel support. The club collaborates with various partners including Active Schools Inverclyde, Ravenscraig Community Sports Hub, and local charities, providing coaching workshops, school sessions, and youth-led holiday camps. We support wider initiatives like the Inverclyde Safe Women’s Charter and Sport Inverclyde, and deliver accredited youth programmes via the Community Learning Team. The club actively contributes to the Active Inverclyde Strategy and continues to improve athletics facilities with partners. In 2025, we partnered with scottishathletics to appoint a Community Impact Officer, reinforcing our mission to positively shape lives through athletics and community engagement.

PORT GLASGOW BOWLING TEAM
Bowling
Sandra and the team at Port Glasgow Bowling Club have made a significant impact in the local community throughout the 2024/25 season. Their dedication to promoting the sport, particularly among young people, has been outstanding. They have actively supported Active Schools by delivering a wide range of sessions, including curricular, extra-curricular, ASN-specific, and Sports Day activities. Their efforts have introduced pupils to a new and inclusive sport, offering opportunities that many wouldn’t otherwise experience. Feedback from schools highlights how the individual focus of bowls allows pupils who may not thrive in team sports to gain confidence and a sense of achievement. This positive impact has been widely recognised by both staff and students. Additionally, the club has welcomed local young people onto the green, with plans to expand these sessions over the summer. Sandra and her team continue to work closely with the Active Schools Sports Development Team, supporting SportForAll camps.

PORT GLASGOW OTTERS
Swimming
Port Glasgow Otters Swimming Club continues to make a transformative impact across Inverclyde during the 2024/25 season, delivering inclusive sport, joy, and opportunity for swimmers of all abilities. As a fully inclusive club, we provide coaching and support for children and adults, including those with physical, learning, or sensory disabilities. Our sessions focus on building water confidence, improving technique, and developing social and life skills in a supportive, welcoming environment. We’ve seen swimmers grow in confidence, independence, and wellbeing—many going on to compete regionally and nationally. Our volunteer coaches and helpers, often drawn from within the community, create a family atmosphere that encourages belonging and achievement. We work closely with local partners to break down barriers to participation, offering subsidised fees and tailored support where needed. Port Glasgow Otters is more than a swimming club—it’s a lifeline for many, empowering individuals through sport and strengthening community connection, inclusion, and wellbeing across Inverclyde.
